Israeli activists

I want to devote this section the Israeli activists who have been arrested at this demonstration, as well as to all Israelis who are coming out to support the Palestinians in their struggle for justice. Thousands of Israelis are opposed to the unjust policies of their country. Some work to change the law, like Rabbis for Human Rights. Others go out into the West Bank (and some have been in Gaza) and protest what their country is doing. They also place their bodies on the line to accompany Palestinian farmers who harvest their olives and are under threat of attacks by soldiers and settlers.

These people are heroes who put themselves at risk for opposing injustice. Often they are unsung heroes, and face ostracism at home for their stance.

Many have been arrested, some have been beaten. Lymor Goldstein was shot in the head several years ago at Biliin at close range with a rubber coated steel bullet and sustained brain damage. Jonathan Pollard lost his eye.

Their courage should put the occupation and those who support it to shame. It should also shame those who look down and despise and hate Jews or Israelis, or seek to paint them all with the same brush. Hatred of Jewish people is a despicable and evil sin, no less evil than the occupation.

These men and women represent all the good that Judaism and Jewish culture represents. God bless them.
